This may be the perfect combination of art and a good cause – a non profit organization called Kidz b Kidz!
Kidz b Kidz is powered by kids and mentored by adults. They teach children about empathy and the importance of helping others, and encourage them to find ways to use their artful hands and generous spirits to do good in the world. Kidz b Kidz inspires kids to create heartfelt artwork that is used in products sold to foster healing and comfort in a child’s hospital experience and to support medical research.

February is finally here, and that means that it’s time to get your kids ready for Valentine’s day. As a child, my favorite thing about Valentine’s Day was always the Valentine Mailbox Competition we had at my school. This allowed all of the kids to bring out the doilies, spread on the glitter glue, and use their noggins to see who could make the most creative receptacle for those treasured notes from their classmates. There are no directions for this craft, but try using an old shoebox or pizza box for a base, and then bring out the wrapping paper, streamers, scissors, glue, glitter, ornaments, construction paper, fabric, ribbons, and anything else you can imagine and let your child’s imagination run wild. The sky is the limit, and I hope you truly enjoy this craft as much as I did.

Even the youngest picker can make this aptly apple-y sack to use on the next excursion to the local orchard.
- Materials
-
- Fabric bag (cloth grocery sacks work well)
- Newspaper
- Fabric paint (green, red and brown)
- Paintbrush
- Apple
- Instructions
-
- Fold over some newspaper and insert it into the fabric bag, laying it flat so that the paint will not seep through. With a brush, use brown paint to fashion a tree trunk and let dry.
- Then use a horizontally cut apple to make leaves by brushing a thin layer of green fabric paint onto the apple and pressing it around the top of the trunk. Repeat several times (make sure to look for the star in the print).
- After the green paint dries, cut an apple in half vertically. Pick the side that still has the stem and brush with red fabric paint. Then “hang” juicy apples on the tree.
